Welcome to our website about Casa Tahona.
Our house is located in the north of Fuerteventura, above the village of Parque Holandes, next to the volcano „Montaňa Roja“, extinct thousands of years ago, on the top of a small hill with an unobstructed view of the mountains, the sky and the sea towards Morocco.
There was nothing there except the remains of an old water wheel and a ruin that had fallen into disrepair decades ago — absolutely nothing!
In 2019 we started building our house on this spot, on a plot of 17.000 m², which we are happy to share with friends.
The house consists of a large room (85 m²) for living, sleeping, cooking and relaxing, a separate bathroom, a wind-protected outdoor terrace, the old, renovated grain mill wheel („Tahona“) and lots of undeveloped space around it, where native vegetation will soon be planted.
Here you have a magnificent view, can enjoy the original landscape of Fuerteventura undisturbed, be completely for and with yourself, and yet you are only a few minutes‘ walk from civilisation.
The equipment:
Our house is completely furnished for 2 to a maximum of 3,5 people. There is
- a free-standing double bed,
- a living couch for 1 more person plus an extra bed for a baby
- satellite TV, stereo, record player, free WiFi, safe, first aid kit
- a fully equipped kitchen with gas cooker, refrigerator and small dishwasher
- a bathroom with washbasin, toilet, shower and washing machine
- a terrace with seating furniture
- Silence, wind, sea view and landscape, landscape, landscape
Casa Tahona is a sustainable house with solar energy, water and waste recycling.
The location:
The house sits on a huge plot above the village of Parque Holandés [link to google maps]. The access road is (at the moment) not yet fully developed. Directly at the entrance to the Parque, opposite the restaurant Don Pepe, even before the bus stop, a track leads up the hill. After a few metres, you reach the gate to the property on the left.
The airport (FUE) is only 20 minutes away. If you want to explore the island, you can rent a car there, we recommend www.cicar.com, they are the only ones to offer fully comprehensive insurance without any extra costs or tricks.
If you only want to go to the Grandes Playas Corralejo, the huge dune beach in the north of Fuerteventura, 11 km away, or to Puerto del Rosario (15 km) or Corralejo (16 km) from time to time, you can also use the fully air-conditioned buses that run every half hour in both directions. From the airport to Puerto del Rosario this is line 3 or 10, then line 6 towards Corralejo.
For a fresh, short swim in the morning, you can also walk to the harbour basin of Playa Del Jablito, which you can see from the house, it’s only about a 10-minute walk. On the way back, you can get fresh baguettes, croissants and other little things for breakfast on the terrace at Don Pepe with a fortifying „cortado“ (espresso with milk).
